Charts and Backtests
Make a chart and test a strategy against historical prices.
Make a chart
Open Charts or ask Kimpton for one. Name the instrument, period, and indicator: "Show AAPL daily prices for one year with a 50-day moving average." Check the instrument, date range, currency, and any missing prices. If data fails to load, choose Try again.
Run a backtest
With a chart open, use its sidebar to write or generate a strategy. For example: "Buy when the 50-day moving average crosses above the 200-day average; exit when it crosses below." Review the generated rules before selecting Run Backtest. Choose the date range and starting capital, then inspect returns, drawdown, and trade markers.
A backtest uses historical data and assumptions. It does not predict future returns or execute a trade. Compare it with a relevant benchmark and check costs and missing periods before using it in a decision.
